Education And Outreach

Master Classes
Accompanying any Push Factor Dance Company performance, the Company will gladly teach master classes to area children in public or private schools or at individual dance studios. Push Factor believes that educating our youth and getting them excited about dance will help them in all facets of their lives into adulthood. With the diversity of the dancers in the Company, Push Factor can teach an array of master classes and cater to the needs of the students in each individual school and enrich their everyday lives.

Performance Workshop
Push Factor has a unique way of working with students interested in performing and possibly pursuing a professional career in dance. Push Factor will send one company member to the participating school and teach the faculty advisor/teacher the choreography to one or two dances one month prior to the company’s performance date. The faculty advisor/teacher will then have the whole month to set the choreography on the students. When the Company arrives for the performance, the students will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the Company in at least one Company performance. This approach brings the professional into the classroom and the student to the professional stage leading to growth in artistry and expression on both fronts.

Integrated Performance Series
New In 2005: Another innovative approach to involving students with the professional process is Push Factors Integrated Performance Series. In this project, the participating students will be given two interactive options:
- Push Factor will send a questionnaire to the students with a list of possible scenarios and outcomes of the storyline the Company is performing one week in advance. Collectively, the students will decide which action the Company will take when the plot arrives at a crossroad. The students are thereby responsible for the plot twists and turns during the live performance, thus writing their own story as it is performed.
- Push Factor will contact the participating students six months in advance. Once contacted, the students will have one month to develop their very own storyline and will submit it to the Company. The Company will then bring the students’ story to life and perform this new work for the community.
